Simple 7-Volt Modification

To cool my Media PC I decided to use two fans, but run them off of 7-volts so that they run quiet.

But I wanted the connection to the fans to be as small as possible, rather than running wires all over the place.

So I will be installing a 6 pin header to replace the two 3 pin headers the fans normally connect to.

The new header will be installed on top of the old header.

This will allow me easy access to the +12 volts I need, plus leave the Sensor connection in-tact.

So first I have to bend the +12volts and Sensor wires.

These will be connected directly to the header's pins.

The header was then super-glued in place

Getting 5 volts was pretty easy, using a Ohm meter I traced 5volts from the ATX header to this voltage regulator.  Note that you can get 5volts from either the Center Pin (As shown) or the heatsink of the regulator.

Now with 5volts soldered up where the ground normally connects to, we have two 7volt fan connections.

Very small and out of the way.
